| STAGES AND TITLES OF TEACHING CERTIFICATES |

| | A. Initial Educator Certificate |
| | Issued for three years |
| | Issued for three years upon completion of a bachelor’s degree, approved teacher education program or 20 months of successful appropriate teaching experience in the same approved nonpublic school or public school in another state and all course work requirements, and verification of passing scores on assessment requirements (Praxis I PPST or waiver, Praxis II and/or CAT/SLLA as applicable). |

| | B. Provisional Educator Certificate |
| | Issued for eight years. |

To receive a provisional educator certificate an applicant
must present evidence of meeting the specific
requirements for an initial educator certificate, in
addition to meeting the following requirements: |

1. has successfully completed such beginning
educator support and training (BEST) program as
may have been made available by the Board, and
ten school months of successful service under
the initial educator certificate; or |
|
| | |
| |
2. has completed, within ten years prior to application
at least thirty months of successful teaching or
service in the subject area or filed in a public,
approved nonpublic school or three years as a
managerial or professional staff member for a
state education agency; or |
|
| | |
| |
3. has served a board of education successfully
under a (Connecticut) provisional teaching or
provisional educator certificate for the school
year immediately preceding application. The
subject area or field taught during the preceding
year shall be the same for which provisional
educator certification is sought. |

| | C. Professional Educator Certificate |
| |
Issued for five years upon completion of thirty school
months of successful teaching experience under the
Provisional Educator Certificate, and completion of
any additional post baccalaureate course requirements
as prescribed by Connecticut Certification regulations
for the endorsement requested. Continued for
additional five-year periods upon successful
completion of nine continuing education units (90
contact hours of continuing education activities) or
six graduate credits during each successive five year
period. |
